Volume & Microphone Technique

As well as understanding the health & safety risks of the equipment we carry, we also understand the risks of “cranking it up” to a point where your guests need to make a quick exit to save their hearing.  We also understand from speaking to clients that more often than not they are happy for the DJ just to play music and not crack corny jokes all night.

Volume

Like you, we like to be able to hear things and we also realise that your party is a social occasion, a place where people who may not normally see each other so often like to chat and not scream into each others ears just to have a conversation.

Due to new legislation introduced in 2007 by the Health & Safety Executive we have to pay special attention to the level of volume we are playing at.

You may see us at certain points of the night standing in front of our equipment or at the back of the room measuring the sound level to ensure that we stay within our own guidelines.  At the same time we have to ensure that the volume is at a level that will entice people onto the dance floor yet allows you and your guests to converse freely without having to scream!

Microphone Technique

We have found through talking to clients that one of their many pet hates is turning up at a disco only to find a DJ who loves the sound of his own voice, tells corny jokes all night and announces each record before and after he’s played it like the breakfast show DJ on local FM.

When you book your disco with DISCOfever we actually give you a choice of how “vocal” your DJ will be on the night…

  • Keep Quiet – At a wedding celebration we will announce the first dance and final song of the night and that is all.  Any other type of party, the microphone is left in the van.
  • Minimal – We will announce the buffet and a few requests and any other announcements that need to be made on the night.
  • Chatty – All of the above plus a bit of chat between songs.

We have placed a special section on your online party planning form where you can indicate your preference from the choices above.
